Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz dried chiles*
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/3 tsp ground allspice
  • pinch of ground clove

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Place chiles on a aking sheet and toast until dry and beginning to puff, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove chiles from oven. When cool enough to handle, remove stems and seeds.
  • Place chiles into a spice grinder and grind until powdery.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients. Store in an air tight container.

Notes

*Ancho chiles are the foundation of classic Tex Mex chili powder. Expirement with a variety of ancho, guajillo, chipotle, pasilla, and chiles de arbol or any combination for your signature chili powder.
