Chili Powder
Ingredients
- 2 oz dried chiles*
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/3 tsp ground allspice
- pinch of ground clove
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Place chiles on a aking sheet and toast until dry and beginning to puff, about 5-10 minutes.
- Remove chiles from oven. When cool enough to handle, remove stems and seeds.
- Place chiles into a spice grinder and grind until powdery.
- Stir in remaining ingredients. Store in an air tight container.
Notes
*Ancho chiles are the foundation of classic Tex Mex chili powder. Expirement with a variety of ancho, guajillo, chipotle, pasilla, and chiles de arbol or any combination for your signature chili powder.
